Old vinyl body Evangeline Ghastly Empty
PostSubject: Old vinyl body Evangeline Ghastly   Old vinyl body Evangeline Ghastly 12cloc10Tue Nov 15, 2011 8:36 am

this post is to show the parts of an Evangeline Ghastly and how she is put together. I had already partially modded her before i took these pictures, so I will be sure to indicate what mods have been done.

Elbow joint; I have taken off her hand, the elastic is being held in place with a paintbrush handle.

Elbow joint; after removeing the lower arm you can see that the elbow joint is actually a tension/hinge joint and the elastic is attached through a hole in one end. warm the vinyl with hot water or a blow dryer on low heat to make removeing the lower arm easier. (hint; if your EG's hand is dangleing a little, it is likely that the knot in the elastic is stuck in her arm, if you pull the lower arm peice away from the elbow joint and stretch the elastic it will snug her hand back up, then just push her arm back together)

This shows how the elastic is attached to the top of the elbow joint as well. notice that the upper arm end has 3 ridges and the lower one has only 2. that is an important detail.

205-207; the elbow joint up close. It only bends one direction, so if it gets turned around backwards the joint won't bend and her arm will be stuck straight. It is easy to fix by rotating it back around.

shoulderjoint unmodded, the vinyl is not strong enough to withstand the pressure the elastic causes. this makes the ball pinch the slot together which keeps the elastic from being able to moove freely in the slot. the result is that she can't lift her arms very far.

shoulderjoint modded!; I trimmed the vinyl away with a sharp exacto knife, now her arms will be able to pose much better!

the elastic that goes from the elbows up through the shoulders passes through her upper torso, I used a ribbon to hold that path so it will be easier to restring her later, the elastic has to pass behind the tube in her torso that runs vertically and it is hard to get it threaded through without the ribbon. (her hands have already been modded, so they don't look like that straight from the box)

upper torso!; this is the cause of alot of the 'banana syndrome'. which is a bent body. the white tube is a hard strong plastic and is needed to keep her body stable under the elastic tension. it has however gotten off center, pulling her to one side. it has actually made an impression in the vinyl, so I had to dip the bottom of this peice in super hot water to soften the vinyl and use needlenose pliers to work the tube out. then I dipped the bottom again to allow the vinyl to relax the buldge away. I will make sure that the tube is dead center when i reassemble her.

this picture shows the neck post. you can see the top of the white plastic support tube.

white plastic support tube from the upper torso, this is her backbone. without it she would squish and slump and get all contorted from the elastic tension.

I have just stuck the tube back in for now, before i restring her I will have to get it pushed all the way in and centered.

this is the 'backbone' tube from her lower torso, the elastic comes down and splits out the side holes to go down her legs. the flattend peice at the bottom sits inside between her hip sockets and keeps her torso peice from buckleing under the elastic tension

left thigh; I have already modded the hip joints, before I cut the vinyl, the slot was pinched almost shut just like the shoulders were.

knee joint, this is a tension/hinge joint just like the elbows. you can see the hole that the elastic goes through. This joint also bends only one direction and can be rotated in the upper and lower leg peices. you can use hot water or a hairdryer on low to soften the vinyl to pull the knee from the upper leg peice. DO NOT attempt to remove the knee joint from the lower leg peice.... it WILL break... trust me...

head; ok this head has already had a lot of mods done to it! I have cut off the back of the head to allow the eyes to be changeable. I have trimmed the vinyl from the eyewells and I dipped it in hot water to straighten out her neck joint bit.I will be adding magnets to hold her headcap on as well as reinforceing the head.

this shows the plastic button and how it was inside the head to keep it on. this method would make it very difficult to change the head without opening the back of the head for access
